Post Description

Who said I don’t fit the format.
To accompany the monthly editions of the NPG Music Club, Prince’s official fan
club and membership website between 14 January 2001 and 4 July 2006, an hour
long NPG Ahdio Show was produced for each month during the inaugural year of
the Club (February 2001 to January 2002), the exception being October 2001
due to the pre-release of The Rainbow Children studio album.

The Eleven ‘Ahdio’ shows (to all intents and purposes podcasts) comprised of snippets
of existing and previously unreleased music sequenced between voiced segues to
imitate the format of a conventional radio transmission. Each Ahdio Show ran as a
continuous track as issued as a downloadable MP3 from the members area of the
website. The concept was highly revolutionary at the time and yet another example
of Prince pioneering the use of the internet: the earliest use of the term Podcast
came in September 2004 once everyone else had latched onto the concept more than
three years behind Prince.

Unreleased songs..
The Ahdio Shows comprised songs already commercially released or available through
the NPG Music Club as separate downloads, however five tracks issued within Ahdio
Shows were unreleased in any other format and therefore exist only in their corres-
ponding show. Those are: 1, 2 (1:13) issued in show #2, Eye Like 2 Play (0:40) in
show #6, and Jukebox With A Heartbeat (4:35) and Bay Girl (1:06) in show #9 – all
of which were recorded at Paisley Park Studios in 2001. The fifth track, Asswhup-
pin’ In A Trunk (7:11), recorded at Paisley Park in 1993, was intended for inclusion
on Madhouse’s third album 24.
